Today is the Hindu Anniversary of Ganesh Chaturthi or Malayalam Vinayaka Chaturthi. This day celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha who is believed to be the destroyer of all obstacles and who blesses all new beginnings.

Paitishahem Gahambar ('bringing in the corn') is celebrated as a 5 day harvest festival in the Zoroastrian faith from Sep 12 - Sep 16.

Today most Hellenists celebrate the goddess Nike, depicted as the winged victory, who was honoured as a companion, or aspect, of Athena. The day commemorates Athena’s victory over Poseidon to become mistress of the city.

Some pagans celebrate the Feast of Astraea, the Star Goddess of Justice and Purity on this day. She abandoned Earth in disgust at its violence and became the constellation Virgo. Do a ritual for social and economic justice.

On this day in 1263, Mindaugas, the first known Grand Duke of Lithuania and the only King of Lithuania, died. He agreed to baptism in return for an acknowledgement of his kingship, but later appeared to revert to paganism, making sacrifices to the old gods, burning corpses instead of burying them, and conducting pagan rites in public. Later historians agree his conversion was strictly strategic in nature.

On this day in 1902, Margaret Hamilton, the actress who portrayed the Wicked Witch of the West in the 1939 film of The Wizard of Oz, was born.
