Today is the Festival of the Virgin of the Pillar. Honor someone who supports you in some way.

Ancient Egyptians and modern Kemetics celebrate today as Aset (Isis) Goes Forth from Her shrine.

In Hinduism, today is Chandra Darshan, the first day of moon sighting after no moon day. In Hinduism, the new moon day is known as Amavasya and the first sighting of the moon after new moon day has religious significance. People observe a day long fast and break it after sighting the new moon on Chandra Darshan.

Konpira Matsuri is held October 10-13 in Yasui Konpira-gu, Gion, Kyoto. The main event at Yasui Konpira Shrine in Gion is on the 10th. The enshrined deity is transferred to a portable shrine. Prayers for world peace are said from 11am on the 12th, until closing the festival at 9am on the 13th.

During mid-October, the city of Belem in Brazil celebrates Círio de Nazaré/Festival of Lights and holds a parade in which people go barefoot, carrying weights and lights to banish evil, sin, and negativity from their lives. It originated as a ritual for the Goddess Perimbo, creator and moon goddess, goddess of justice. The celebration lasts for two weeks.

On this day in 1944, eight hundred Romany children were systematically murdered at Auschwitz.

Edith Randall was also born this day in 1897. She was a successful teacher of astrology and card symbolism, and author of Sacred Symbols of the Ancients.
